Renewing the Humber
Brian Williams, company Business Development Manager, attended the ‘Renewing the Humber’ Business Conference at the Forest Pines hotel in September 2011.
The event focused on ways in which SME’s, as part of the energy sector supply chain, could make a contribution to the massive planned development of renewable energy in the Humber region.
JMS Consultants work with the major energy companies already involved in alternative energy sources, including wind, wave and biomass technologies. Of particular interest to JMS is the confined space awareness, manual handling, heights and health and safety training for those working on wind farms.
The core skills the JMS team have from their experience in the oil and gas world are readily transferable across the wide range of new engineering technologies in the renewable energy sector.
JMS Consultants wins
National Grid Training Contract
JMS Consultants is proud to announce the award of a new 3 year training contract with National Grid to deliver Gas Tester and Confined Spaces Awareness training.
JMS has worked with National Grid at most sites around the UK for many years and was particularly pleased to receive a further endorsement from them having undergone a very rigorous tendering process.
Central to the JMS success was confirmation from external sources that the JMS Quality Management System exceeded the approval criteria in health and safety, quality and environmental Impact.
Health and Safety matters....
The message from JMS Consultants is strong.... ‘In order to avoid fines of up to £20,000 and/or a prison sentence stemming from the H&S (offences) Act, which came into force in January 2009, employers need to provide suitable and sufficient training to all staff for their health safety and welfare.
In the current economic climate many companies may be tempted to cut costs by tackling their manual handling training in-house. Unfortunately this may be false economy. Many in-house manual handling programmes are based on outdated approaches which can cause as many injuries as they prevent!
Another problem with many in-house Manual Handling programmes is the lack of follow through. Many companies provide training but do not follow this up with adequate support allowing employees to slip back into unsafe practices. By outsourcing their Manual Handling training to a specialist Manual Handling company, which offers training tailored to its specific needs, businesses can be sure they are receiving the safest, most up-to-date training and are buying into a behavioural safety system.
This can also help businesses to reduce the cost of Lost Time Accidents (LTA), the biggest cause of accident/injury in the workplace. Manual Handling accounts for over a third of all LTAs at a cost to injury of over £1 billion annually! As Health and Safety consultants and providers of health and safety training, JMS Consultants are specialists in the design and delivery of tailored Manual Lifting and Handling training solutions. We also offer other OPITO and IOSH approved health and safety training courses, solutions and consultancy services across a diverse range of industries and business sectors.
